Tadeusz Jezierski is professor of agricultural science at the Institute of Genetics and Animal Breeding of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He has been a full professor at the institute since 1999 and is the head of the institute’s Department of Animal Behavior. He is an internationally known author on a wide range of topics and has written papers on animal behavior, genetics, and animal welfare. His recent research interests include operant conditioning of sniffer dogs, behavioral genetics, human–animal interactions and the human–animal bond, genetic and environmental factors influencing social and sexual behavior of farm animals, feeding behavior, and emotional behavior and physiological reactions in farm animals. He has written 73 peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals, four monographs, four handbooks, 11 book chapters, and 111 conference reports. John Ensminger, a member of the bar of the State of New York, who has practiced in the areas of constitutional law, mental patient civil rights, taxation of financial instruments, anti-money laundering and counterfinancing of terrorism, and most recently the law as it applies to skilled dogs. He has written over 30 papers on these topics, with articles on service and police dogs appearing in numerous journals. He is also a contributing editor for the website of the Animal Legal and Historical Center of the Michigan State University College of Law. He has written two books on specialized dogs, Service and Therapy Dogs in American Society and Police and Military Dogs. L.E. Papet is the owner and operator of K9 Resources, LLC, a privately held licensed investigative firm that specializes in the use of detection canines. As a scientific data-driven canine trainer, handler, and consultant, his primary focus is the training, testing and use of canines in olfactory disciplines including, but not limited to, explosives, illicit drugs, humans (live and deceased), pharmaceuticals, alcohol, accelerants, and many other forms of contraband and odor for both public and private sectors. He has trained hundreds of local, state, and federal officials, has written over 170 protocols for the training, testing, safety, deployment, and implementation of detection canines, and has received commendations for his work. Author Andrew Field concludes his study of the French Army during the Waterloo Campaign with his fourth volume, "Waterloo: Route and Retreat". This last book in the series relies heavily on first person accounts by participants that give the narrative an element of emotion and immediacy not always found in campaign histories. As the focus is on the French Army, there is no more coverage of the Armies commanded by the Duke of Wellington and Field Marshal Blucher than are absolutely necessary to advance the narrative.The author follows Napoleon's Army all the way from Waterloo to its disbandment only weeks later, after the surrender of the interim government in Paris. This reviewer found a number of items of exceptional interest in the narrative. First, Napoleon's Army Du Nord is shown to have collapsed completely in the closing moments of the Battle of Waterloo. The survivors of the ensuing rout made their own ways back into France. Second, some order and discipline was eventually restored, thanks in significant part to Marshal Grouchy's successful retrograde from the battlefield at Wavre with his portion of the army. Third, an interim government in Paris had surprisingly little stomach for an active defense of Paris.This book is an excellent piece of historical research. The narrative is inherently less heroic than earlier books in the series, but does clarify what happened after the Imperial Guard was defeated in its final assault on Mont St. Jean. This reviewer wishes this book had included better maps and some illustrations. It is however highly recommended to students of the campaign.

This is the fourth and final volume of Andrew Field's history of the Waterloo campaign from the French perspective. Unlike most English language accounts, it provides extraordinary detail, day by day and almost hour by hour, of what happened with the French army after the battle ended on June 18, 1815. Of particular interest to me was learning how much better Marshal Grouchy led his part of the army during the retreat than in the pursuit of the Prussians after Ligny. Also, General D'Erlon, whose indecision on June 16 was one of the major failings of the campaign, was actually among the most active senior officers in helping the French army to rally. All of this and much more is presented in the words of eye witnesses and participants. The book tends to support certain other authors' opinions that the Prussians were the real victors of Waterloo.

There are a number of books available on this topic but I have found that Social Media Marketing may be the best! I have used this book as the text for teaching a social media marketing course at a major university on three occasions. This is a great read, full of examples and information that is valuable to the reader (in my case, students) who are eager to learn more about how marketers can leverage and benefit from using social media. In particular, there is a solid outline on how to create a social media marketing plan. Again, very valuable and this template may be applied from small to mid-size businesses to an enterprise. Students have made very positive comments on Social Media Marketing 2nd edition, and found it to be very useful in developing social media marketing plans. I strongly recommend this book for anyone who needs to learn how to leverage social media.

The books (I bought two) are in fine condition and it better shape than I thought they would be. The seller was very honest. I did not spend a lot of money on this purchase, but honestly was not happy the they were held up in the warehouse for over week on it's way to me. We needed our textbooks for class and wanted to get a jump on it. That is not the fault of the seller. The book itself is very interesting and I am learning a lot about social media. I enjoy the Dark Side of Media sections, which draw light on the scary side. It is an interesting look into the digital age we live in.

If you are a social media novice, this is a great educator to how and why it works in your favor. If I had more time, I would read it outside of the bare minimal that I need to complete assignments in my online Social Media Marketing course. The chapters are brief and it is lightweight. If you are short on time and you are allowed open book tests, the end of chapter summaries are a great overview of the chapter without having to read each chapter in entirety.

Using for MBA course, it's alright, but it reads as if social media is the holy grail and there no other as effective ways of marketing.Then again, the title is specific so I'd say it is good if you want to solely concentrate on social media, but there are other methods ofmarketing. It also doesn't explain the how to or practical methods of marketing on social media, but merely promotes the usage.

Interesting book, I originally bought it because I needed it for a class. Learning a lot from it. My only complaint would be how it looks like on kindle, and there's been numerous times where I've caught typos. Talking about social media marketing, which of course involves e-books, etc. and they can't even proofread or optimize the book so that it looks great on kindle? Haha.

I actually didn't read much of this book because it was redundant to what I already knew. This might be a great resource for an older demographic that doesn't know too much about social marketing.

This textbook is not nearly as bad as the dozens of others that I have had to use in the past. Rather than just throwing information out at you in a dull, linear fashion it ties the material together with pop culture examples to help connect the what we're learning to the real world. Even the info itself is written in a more natural and fun way than the standard textbook. I'm only giving it 4 stars because at the end of the day it's still a textbook, so it's in my blood to have some sort of dislike for it.

I needed this book for a class, but it is more than just a text book. It is clearly written and a very good reference, the only thing I find wrong is that social media changes so quickly and some of the references are out of date.

This book was awesome! It's packed with useful information. To be honest, when I got it and saw how many pages it had I thought it was going to be really dry and hard to get through, but he did a great job keeping it interesting. This is by far the most comprehensive book on franchising I've seen. As someone toying with the idea, I really appreciate the info!

In the book Mark Siebert explains in a very detailed way bet yet very easy to understand the complexities of franchising. As a small upcoming franchisor looking to expand my business through franchising this book was key in understanding everything that is involved in this growth strategy. I believe in surrounding my self with the best knowledge and the best people available in any particular subject, and whet it comes to franchising, this is it.

Mark has done an incredible job of detailing exactly what it takes to be successful in franchising. I can speak firsthand. As someone who had nothing more than a dream to franchise my business back in 2001, I turned to Mark who took my business from a mere single location to what has turned into 900 locations across 30 states today. Mark provides incredible detail in his book and is a recognized expert in franchising. I would not be where I am today without Mark's guidance.

One of the best books I have read. Easy read and book was interesting from the first page to the last page. Very well written with many real-world examples of both successful and unsuccessful franchises that was illustrating some lesson. D. T. Max was born and raised in New York City and graduated from Harvard in 1984. He has been an editor at Washington Square Press, Houghton Mifflin, and The New York Observer. For the past eight years, he has reported mostly for The New York Times Magazine. His work has also appeared in the Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, San Francisco Chronicle, and Chicago Tribune. He lives outside Washington, D.C., with his wife, their two young children, and a rescued beagle named Max.

I found this book to be incredibly interesting. I teach biology and anatomy to nurses, and I've known about prion diseases for a long time. I had read before about the disease kuru in New Guinea, and about the Mad Cow outbreak in Great Britain. But reading about a family that has an inherited disease that involves prions really changes things a bit in this field. In medical school, we heard of a case where surgeons opened the skull of a patient, thinking he had Alzheimer's Dementia...only to find out the person had Crutzfeld-Jakob disease. The proper protections were not in place and other people got infected with it.Prion diseases are different, in that they are not caused by bacteria or viruses, which we have known about for over 100 years. Prions are pure protein, and we have them in our brains normally. But when diseased prions touch normal proteins, they cause the unfolding of those proteins. And this causes the misfunction of normal proteins.I feel for this family in Italy. Their condition, that plagues their family, curbs their lives. But doctors will find out a lot more about prions by observing this family. Their misfortune will add to the current medical knowledge of the world about prions.

The Family That Couldn't Sleep is a chilling documentary about prion diseases and their terrifying effects on the human brain. It's well written and researched, and the accounts are intriguing, if not rather scary. I learned quite a bit from reading it. Ironically, it also made me sleepy, so I always read it before bed....At times it's a bit didactic, but honestly it's more interesting than dry. It certainly reads better than a textbook. I recommend it to anyone with an interest in epidemiology, biology, and medical microbiology.

Through an engaging, coherent history of prions and their diseases, "The Family That Couldn't Sleep" creates an amazing informative book. Very often, it is easy to dissociate laboratories and the molecular research that is actively moving to the lives of individuals human beings. Max creates an amazing weaved book in which the cutting-edge research of the time is connected to the individual family narratives. Beyond that, we are also able to get a glimpse into the lives of brilliant researchers who were spearheading an unknown field - prion research and exploration.Like a voyage of infectious disease, prions are connected across the world - from Italy, England, Papua New Guinea to the United States. "The Family That Couldn't Sleep" provides a great introduction into the interesting history of an infectious agent. With pockets of drama in the prion research field to the personal lives of afflicted individuals to the policy movements and action that move the storyline, Max's compelling book will pique anyone's interest in infectious prions and their role across the world.

I heard about this disorder (Fatale Familia Insomnia - FFI) and had to learn more about it. Maybe macabre and grisly for some but fascinating just the same. I'm still reading it but have learned so much about medical practices as far back as the 1600's and how medical research has evolved over the centuries. And even though FFI is now exceedingly rare, there are other related diseases (ALS is one, I believe) that are called Prion diseases that have to do with defective proteins and are still somewhat of a mystery for medical research. The author has managed to write about this so the average person can understand the body's physiology and disease and make it extremely interesting. Great book for people interested in medical mysteries.

3.5 stars, really. I learned so much about prion diseases and their discovery that I went back to reread it and take notes. However, switching back and forth among storylines and diseases ended up making me a little confused, which is why I'm going back to consolidate what I learned. The subject is fascinating and valuable, and I'm glad I read this book, although it could have gone smoother. I'm convinced we need to fund more prion research.
