My daughter is 15 months old. I've been signing basic routine signs to her since she was 3 months old, like; milk, water, eat, snack, more, sleep. But by 12 months old my daughter had really caught on (she started signing herself at 9 months). It was such a success that I wanted to learn more signs with her. This book appealed to me the most out of the few baby sign language books here on Amazon. As soon as this arrived I cracked it open and started reading.PROS:•This book covers everything you need to know to get started and continue signing with your baby/toddler. From how to easily start signing to signing while you sing and everything in between. After I read this book all of my questions were answered.•This book is small and easy to carry with you. I alway have it in my purse or in my diaper bag.•This teaches you to introduce 3-10 signs to start and then add a few more once you feel comfortable. I carry this book with me and memorize at least two new signs a day.•Includes ASL numbers and Manual Alphabet.•More than 300 signs, each with a photo of the woman demonstrating the sign along with a simple description of how to do the sign.•Your facial expressions are important! This book taught me why the face can change the meaning of a certain signs.•This has a list of "Lifesaver Signs" such as "careful", "hot", "no" ect. Most useful section for anyone with a curious toddler.CONS:•None.TIPS!!:•Signing with your baby is easy. I'm a single, working mom and I love it. Once I felt comfortable signing a handful of signs the rest came easily. Now it's just a habit to sign with everything I do around my baby.•Don't expect them to catch on right away. It takes time. Even now that my baby knows 15+ signs, it still takes her a week before she will incorporate using a new sign that I've been teaching her. Other times she will start using the sign right away.•A lot of signs require precise hand shapes that young ones can't master until they're older. They will improvise to their ability of the sign. As they get older the signs will become more accurate.Overall this is a 5-star book. It's absolutely amazing and should be an essential item. It's an amazing feeling being able to communicate with your baby so early on.

I have started reading and using this book now that my baby is 4-months. It has very useful signs, but I wish it had more food (I want to communicate with my baby about sweet potatoes and carrots, but the food included in this book is cookie and candy--but very helpful for feeding)-there are some good signs, but I'll probably only use 20-30 of them as there are a lot that are not useful for daily activities with an infant

Pretty good, with some oddities. With only 300 words, I'm sure hippopotamus and crab, for example, could have been omitted in favor of some more useful words, like toes.

OUR EXPERIENCE WITH SIGNING:I'd read about baby signing a little before my son was born and decided it was something I wanted to try. I bought the Baby SIgn Language Basics DVD when I did not receive it as a shower gift. I wasn't sure how it would go, especially as my husband wasn't as enthusiastic as I was about it. Around six months, I started signing "more" with my son a little, then kinda gave up because he just looked like he was too young to really be taking it in. Then, out of the blue one day, he signed "more" to me while I was feeding him! I couldn't believe it! I hadn't even been consistently using the sign, yet he had still picked up on it. This made me realize that you don't have to be religious with the signing for it to work. After that, it was much less intimidating. So we started adding a few more easy signs. Eat, milk, mommy, daddy, cookie, cracker, fruit. He picked up on it so quickly!I cannot explain how amazing it is to be able to communicate with your child before they can form words. Even after my son began "talking," we wouldn't have known what he was trying to say most of the time without the signs to go along with it. Some people worry that signing can slow speech development, but if I'm not mistaken, there's research to the contrary. In our experience, I think maybe our son was slower to begin speaking out loud, but he could still sign more words than his peers could say and in the long run I think this gave him an advantage. While "speaking" was a slower concept for him to develop, he had a head start on the concept of "communicating." I think him being able to tell us what he wanted helped us avoid some tantrums and fussing. Talking was kinda like a light bulb to him. One day, he had the confidence to start trying new words and he would say anything. By 18 months he was talking as much as his peers and had dropped most of his signs. Now that we've started signing with his 6 month old sister, he has picked up most of his signs again!My advice: Start around 6 months. Don't feel like you have to be an expert or sign constantly. You can do as much or as little as you want, but I think it makes a huge difference!OUR EXPERIENCE WITH THIS PRODUCT:This is a great, affordable resource for learning to sign to your baby. I bought the DVD before my son was born and that's all I had. The DVD is definitely the best way to learn the signs. Seeing them done by an actual person is so much easier than reading "directions" in a book. That being said, I have since bought this DVD and book combo for expecting friends and after flipping through it I was jealous and wished I had a book too. The book is a great quick reference to remind you of a sign. Whenever I forgot a sign, I had to put the DVD in and navigate the menus to find it. The book would have been a lot easier. That's why this is such a great combo!The signs they choose, for the most part are very practical. Some of them we never use enough for my son to learn (like the holidays, crab, starfish, mountain, sand, teacher) and some that I wish were there that weren't (snacks, blocks, pillow). But really, most of what we wanted was there. Plus, a bunch we never got around to teaching him. I also like that they give alternative signs on some of the important ones that are difficult for babies to do.The signs are presented alphabetically. You can watch them all in order, watch one starting letter at a time from the menu or start at a specific word. Basically, each starting letter is a "chapter" on the DVD, and the starting letter sign list is the "scene selection." It would have been nice to have an additional menu, where I could view the signs in groups (animals, foods, colors, actions, objects, feelings, commands), but I realize this would have been pretty complicated to organize on the DVD. I actually typed out the entire list in excel and grouped them by category so that I could learn them that way. I thought it was easier to learn them by category instead of alphabetically, as many of the same types of words have similar signs.I like to get this for every expecting mom I know. (I've ordered 3 in the past in addition to the DVD only I originally bought for myself!)

Finally started reading this book now that my daughter is 5 months old (and of course now that the return window has passed 🙄), and it’s missing 25 pages!!! It’s not like they were ripped out, rather it just skips from page 82 to 107. NOT COOL.

It's sad to see how far the once-great Battle Angel Alita books have fallen. The first series was filled with epic battles, interesting ideas, mad visuals and facinating characters. However Last Order, now nearly twice as long as the original series, feels slow, padded and weak.I thought things were slow when an entire 200 page book was spent on a single fight. But now we have 200 pages spent setting up for a fight. We check in on several characters (including some long-awaited news about the situation back on Earth), get another long flashback and it ends with the final round of the ZOT tournament FINALLY starting.I still see flashes of the book's old brilliance and love Kishiro's art but this series remains disappointing.I hope the next book will recapture some of the old magic (maybe our title character can actually do something?) but I fear we'll get another 200 pages of shouting and punching and no real story.

Can a recreated brain be human and have a soul? Can a civilization where their brains have been replaced by microchips be human still? Like other Japanese Science Fiction these questions are explored. However, for those who like action and fights Alita is also for you. This is the re-envisioned Alita and you need not to know the previous early series, or her youthful Mars series to enjoy.

I saw the anime and read the a large portion of the original series (Gunnm) as paper manga, but tired of the constant arena battles. This continuation/reboot picks up some time after I stopped reading that series and seems to continue with the story. As long as it does not drift back into constant arena battles, I think it will remain interesting. So far, the story elements are keeping my interest and I have purchased volume 2 to find out what happens next.The drawing is as I remember, and there is a good smattering of humor amidst the angst and bloodshed.While not specific to this title, and not affecting my review, I think this note could be helpful for others looking to read manga electronically. This is the first time I am reading manga on a tablet, and I think the Kindle and comiXology readers do a good job -- I like the right-to-left format being respected. And, it is nice that I can pull in manga from my Amazon account. It is too bad that they're separate apps, though.

*Minor spoilers ahead*After the arsefest that was Volume 13, I wasn't looking forward to Volume 14 of Battle Angel Alita: Last Order. Like many readers, I was first interested by the Z.O.T.T. tournament but grew quickly weary of it. The entire *volume* about characters not named Alita and not even relevant to the story (unless you're a Zekka fan) was a little much. So needless to say, when I opened Vol. 14 and see Toji, my first thought was "Great. What Giger-reject creation is he going to be fighting for the next 30 pages?"Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised. For whatever reason, Kishiro has returned to the story and the titular character. He's still soliciting ideas for NEW CHARACTERS! in the back of the book, which may not augur well for the future, but for now the main personalities of Last Order are all back. And includes not only Alita, but Zazie, Sechs, Nova, and others who last made appearances what seemed like four tankobon ago. Mbadi, the primary antagonist of the series, finally drags his butt back into the picture as well.This particular volume is mostly about Zazie, but that shouldn't be a surprise as Last Order has increasingly been about an ensemble cast instead of just Alita. I'm not talking about the throwaway Z.O.T.T. contestants of late, but the recurring characters. Kishiro seems to prefer to develop them more. Developing recurring characters is a bit of a novel concept for Kishiro, as many of them ended up with their brains bashed in back in the original BAA.Although he is far from my favorite character, Sechs has slowly become more and more three-dimensional as the story has progressed and even Toji has had his share of attention. I don't like any of these characters as much as Alita, but as long as Kishiro fleshes them out as he does here for Zazie, I can more than live with them.Another Panzer Kunstler is briefly introduced here that is connected to Alita back when she was known as Yoko (and presumably spending every day on killing sprees). This suggests that the story will eventually focus on our heroine's background an ominous past again. This time around she is mostly limited to arguing with Sechs and helping Zazie recover from a "unique" illness, though she does get to punch Mbadi in the face (sort of) while projecting herself into cyberspace in a dream state - and I will admit to laughing out loud when she wakes up from her dream.Mostly I'm happy to see the story back. It was refreshing to be reacquainted with all the personalities in the series and getting a few pages of scenes in the Scrapyard was a nice bonus. This is like being thrown overcooked steak after several volumes of tournament tripe, but when Kishiro is at his best he is among the best mangaka out there. His art style and attention to detail are still big winners for me and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. As long as he ends the freakin' Z.O.T.T. in the next volume, anyway...

Now this is a classic. Plus since I have it loaded on my kindle, I dont have to rummage around endless boxes in the attic to get to my old copies. This lead to Ghost in the Shell and Zeiram: The Animation for me.

Have to admit this was not as exciting as the last battle between big genetic mutations and legendary karate team but nice connector story about zazi. I think Kishiro has done a great job expanding his story and this chapter although not having much emotional tugging it kinda stitches and prepares you for what i'm guessing is the last battle which should span one or two more novels given Kishiro's pace. I like that these books are only 10 bucks a pop and you get 30 minutes of enjoyment out of them. Chances are if you pick up this book its not because you're expecting something spectacular from this particular installment but are just a dedicated fan of a very unique cyberpunk series. I'm definitely getting the next one. ;) Happy Reading all!

Great manga! I thought this volume was just as good if not better than the previous ones. Since this is the 4th volume in the series, there isn't much more I think I need to say.
