Since leaving home, Albom has not actively practiced his faith, but the rabbi, Albert Lewis, asked Albom to do his eulogy. That led Albom to spend hours and hours with Lewis over the next several years. As their friendship grows, so does Albom's appreciation for the rabbi he knew as a child but never really knew.Lewis served this congregation for generations; it's the only placed he ever served. Albom's reports of their time spent together bring out Lewis's wisdom and teaching in such a way that make the reader long to sit at his feet and listen to stories. Their conversations range widely, encompassing questions big and little. As a Jewish man married to a Christian, Albom is especially interested in the question of inter-religious relations. Lewis tells the story of an early episode in his tenure. Covington had been in and out of prison, immersed in drugs and crime, when he became a Christian and began serving others. Albom initially met Covington to investigate the ministry, to determine whether his foundation would give them a grant. He got to know Covington, visiting him on several occasions and attending services at the church. He eventually wrote a newspaper column about their having the heat turned off because of their failure to pay the gas bill. It didn't help that the roof of the old church had a gaping hole. That little bit of publicity brought interest and money to the ministry, and now the church has a solid roof! There are volumes to be written about our neighbors, the family in the pew behind us in church, the family who runs the dry cleaners I go to, the bus driver who picks up my daughter every day. I know those books will never be written, but Albom reminds me that if I take time to listen, I might hear some stories worth remembering and will likely learn a few things about living life.

Positively LOVED this book. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this is quite possibly my favorite Mitch Albom book -- and I've read them all!This is not a fiction story. It is a real story of two men -- a rabbi and a Christian minister -- cleverly woven together by the author. It is the story of not just having faith in God or yourself, but in other people as well. People aren't always what we think they are at first glance (or second, or third...) but if we give them a chance, we will see them for who they truly are at heart.As usual, Albom writes with sensitivity, love, and the entire range of human emotion. This is definitely a must-read for anyone that is human.

This is one of those books that every single human being should experience . The morale of the story for me ....we are all flawed humans, some more than others , but we all have the potential to redeem ourselves in the eyes of God and humanity. Mitch, the Reb, and Henry Covington have traveled vastly different paths , but in the end are really more alike than they are different ....you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover ...there’s goodness somewhere in everyone . Read this book....you’ll be glad you did .

Really enjoyed this book and Albom’s ability to appreciate the extraordinary within people. The dual narratives work well showing drastically different paths of faith that rest on the same base. Despite the religious underpinnings, there is little preachiness. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in faith.

The characters surrounding Henry were well developed but not as well developed for the those surrounding the Rabbi. That was why I was so surprised that that Rabbi would leave something as personal as his last sermon with his care giver. Probably because the book is so short there isn't room for much detail, but there were other similar instances that had the same effect on me. I really liked the book and have recommended it to others.

I read this book in one sitting, it has left such an impression on me. What a blessing the author was given to spend this time with Reb and Henry and pass on to us this beautiful book. Can't even express the emotions flowing through me. Thank you so much for your wonderful writing. It really has inspired me.

Mitch Albom creates a beautiful story based on two diverse characters from two religions and creates the link that goes back thousands of years through the act of faith in God. It's a book worth reading in this day and age where diversity is predominantly visible even in areas where common grounds can be sought.It's wonderful how Albom depicts the unselfish nature in which the two characters reach out to people of walks of life irrespective of status.

This was a compelling read. 2 stories about 2 very different men who become devoted to God. The message is simple. . . even though the faith may be different in the end we all believe the same thing. Perfect read at Christmas!

This book is full of colored pictures, as well as, a couple of black and white. I love the lay outs for different gardens. I am planning on putting both a vegetable and herb garden near my back door in 2013; after looking at several ideals in the book - I can't wait to try them out! I was surprise to see that raised bed dated back to the 1500 era. I always thought it was a newer way of gardening. This book is really worth every penny I paid for it. And I don't think you will be disappointed buying it. In the spring when I prune, I am hoping to have enough limbs and branches to make a small wooden bench similar to page 34 to put a tray of birdseed and a potted plant on it.The garden on page 55 makes me drool; I so wish I had that much land for a garden like that. I love all the rustic tepee structures threw out the book. Farther into the book talks about edible gardens; I have always loved that ideal and had it where I use to live. Just think you are out mowing the grass and come across your blueberry bushes or strawberries and pause to sample a few. That is so refreshing I can tell you from experience. Also, nothing is more pleasing then to sit near your gardens with a book and munch on the good things in life; plus the smells of herbs are heaven sent. Toward the back of the book is a listing of several seed companies, as well as, several gardens that are open to the public. With the stuff they are doing to our foods these days I think more and more people will be putting in gardens in their front and back yards, window sills, roof tops there is no limit to where you can plant a garden big or small. Plus, think of the health benefits you gain from fresh air and exercise in what should be a stress free space. This book is both for those who live in the city or country. I do hope you enjoy this book as much as I do. It is next to my couch so when I have a cup of tea and just want to relax I can look at it over and over. Happy gardening.

Wow what a great book! Exactly what I've been searching for. And I buy a LOT of books on gardening. Jennifer Bartley did a really good job on this one. I will keep this one on my night stand next to my graph paper and idea notepad, and maybe buy another to keep in the potting shed.

I have been designing gardens for several years, but since I am self taught, potagers were a new concept to me. I really enjoyed the historical background the author gave, but the most valuable parts of the book for me were the photos and design drawings. I got lots of good ideas for my own potager, and for friends who have been asking me for help in designing theirs.This book will not be a complete resource for a brand new gardener. She doesn't thoroughly cover things like soil prep, maintenance, harvest, or pest control (which is why I give the book four stars instead of 5). But if you have enough knowledge to handle these issues, you'll find this book to be all you need. If you need another book to cover these issues, I'd highly recommend Anna Pavord's book on Kitchen Gardens.

Excellent ideas and plans for all kinds of locations, including a city version. I appreciated the author's inclusion of flowers along with her edible landscaping.

I'm getting ready to add a fairly large vegetable/flower garden to my property and this book has proved to be a life saver! Some of the hints that the author has given concerning design and placement, I will definitely be using. I also liked the historical information regarding how they used and placed their gardens in medieval times. I am including some of the plants that were always in the gardens of the monasteries as a historical nod.(my house is over 200 years old) Overall, a great book for anyone just getting started and looking for some ideas!

One of the best plays I've ever had the honor of reading. I saw the movie version in high school and I immediately fell in love with it. The play is a lot more in depth with the characters than the film. A funny brilliant emotional story of a man trying to create a family and fall in love. Harvey Fierstein is one of the best modern playwrights of our time.

Loving to be able to revisit this classic before seeing in on stage for the first time.

I bought this book because I found a great monologue in the play, and my acting teacher wanted us to have a hard copy of the monologue we chose. I read through the whole play, and was really blown away by it all. It sends a strong message, and is one of the few things that can actually make me shed a tear. I've read this countless times, now, and it will eternally have a place in my collection.

This play is so good how can you can't put it down. The characters and situation are realistic and compelling. It is a most have for any true actor or director.

Harvey Feinstein is a national treasurer. This play holds up even after all the time since it was published. Beautifully written, easily quoted.

This is one of the most fantastic plays ever written, Harvey Fierstein is a genius. A must read/see. The first Broadway revival since the original is happening this fall for a limited run. Everyone should definitely see it.

I saw the movie fist,so I always assumrd Allen to be older than he was in the stage direction, eighteen and shamefully beautiful. I like that, gives you sort of an insight into the character. Definately one of my top three plays. Thorch Song, Inherit the Wind, ond The Ubu Plays, in that order. Makes me wish the movie had been reviwed on 'In Living Color', two snaps up, and around the world
