Holy cow- what a thrill!! I listened to this book (I strongly suggest you listen because the narrator, Ray Porter, is a true genius and made the story truly come alive) when it first came out, while I was on vacation in Europe. Let's just say there were a couple of days when I couldn't wait to get back to the hotel so I could plug in and listen.I'm not going to go into details of the plot because other reviews have done so. I will say many aspects are plausible and possible which makes the story more realistic. And even if the story feels a bit "sci-fi", there is too much credibility in the story to simply lump the book into that category.The characters are well crafted and I had an immediate connection with all of them (well, the good ones, anyway). Even though there are several main characters, I had no trouble keeping track of all of them thanks to Brian Andrews' wonderful writing.The gripping twists and turns in the story kept me listening far past when I should have gone to sleep. And the ending- WOW WOW WOW!!!. When I finished listening, I looked out the hotel window and said (actually out loud!), with my mouth hanging open: "Holy S*%t- What a ride!!".Do yourself a big favor and READ/LISTEN TO THIS BOOK!!!!! You will not be disappointed.

Such a novel also teaches readers something new. I must admit, I’m not much of a “science” guy. Sci-fi books aren’t the type I gravitate toward, typically. However, Reset is a down and out non-stop thriller with sci-fi elements.Brian does a masterful job taking high concept scientific theory and breaking them down in a way that is both understandable and quite fascinating. His characters are compelling and their struggles universal. The novel is well paced and each chapter leaves you wanting to know how the characters will resolve the next conflict which happens to be only a page or two away.And the ending? WOW. I’ll admit I didn’t see THAT coming. Without giving it away I’ll say you might need to go back and re-read the last two chapters. Things aren’t always as they seem and humanity’s greatest enemy walks amongst us in plain sight.Computer technology has proved a Reset is in order from time to time, pick up a copy of Brian’s book and see what a real Reset truly entails.

Admittedly, I’m not a Sci-Fi buff, but being a huge fan of the Tier One series, I had to try this out. Great mystery weaving in some Sci-Fi elements to illustrate the war we are actually waging on our planet. The message isn’t preaching, but rather woven in to the action, audacity, and realism one would expect when reading Brian Andrew’s work. Some mind blowing parts that make the novel as fun to read as it is to reflect on afterwards. (I humbly suggest pairing that reflection with a Mosaic/Citra hopped IPA.) Nice work!

At one time I was an avid SF reader, but drifted away from it many years ago. But there have been an occasional one that here and there that got to me. Reset is one. This one off the few books that got me talking out loud to the story as I was reading. Not a story of space ships zooming around (even if you wonder where the "orb" came from) but one of today's world with a SF twist. Highly recommended.

I think authors should need to start stating their liberal agenda upfront so as a reader I can avoid wasting my time. The story was actually not bad but the cacophony of cliches and stupid choices by the main cast, not to mention the not subtle snippets of liberal logic detract from what could have been a passable waste of time. But alas, that was not the case. Stupid people make stupid choices, oh yeah and civilization is going to end. Granted we have been hearing dire predictions for decades now but this time it is real! Whatever.

Reset was a decent sci-fi thriller about an orb found in a cave in Afghanistan that sort of hacks into a person's thoughts and takes over if you get close enough to it.I liked the story, but it was Ray Porter's narration that really made this book!! As always, he did a superb performance!The ending was one of those big twists that I didn't see coming and really stayed with me. I could have absolutely done without the preachy Afterword though. Just tell the story and hope you get the point across from the story. The message was there for me, but the soapbox kind of turned me off.

Absolutely fantastic novel with a unique and incredible plot, great characters, and a message that we ALL need to hear and heed. Well worthy of five stars.

Excellent book, really makes you think and wake up. If the people of this planet do not take care of our planet we will cease to exist and this is truly where we are headed.

"Before I Let Go" was a pretty unique piece of YA fiction- I'm not sure how to categorize it, maybe as a psychological thriller. We follow Corey from the time she found out her BFF, Kyra, has died over the course of her short trip to Lost Creek, Alaska, the place she used to know as home. Corey left town several months ago to attend a boarding school, when her mother moved away. She was really sad to leave Kyra behind, but they promised to stay in touch and wait for each other- and they were almost there. This is why Corey is shocked to hear that Kyra's death is considered suicidal (it is believed she looked for a crack in the ice and drowned).The story is told in pieces- we have the present events, events from the past few years of Kyra/Corey together, and letters which Kyra had written but not sent to Corey (plus some stylistic writing as if a screenplay). Together, it makes for an incredibly engaging story. We get to put together the pieces of Kyra and Corey separately and together through their friendship. There is a big disconnect between the town Corey left and the one she returns to. The whole story is shrouded in mystery and grief- and it had the feel of a thriller at times. The town and the people in it had a very surreal feel, almost like Stepford, where you know there has to be more to the story and it's really creepy and you're dying to figure out why. This book ended up being a quick read for me, primarily for that reason- I absolutely had to figure out what happened to Kyra and what would happen to Corey.The pace of this book is absolutely perfect, and the descriptions of Kyra really brought her to life. Corey was less well-developed, despite being the primary character. It was a really interesting format, where although being told from Corey's point-of-view, the character we get to know best and understand the most is Kyra. I also thought the depiction of bipolar disorder in this book was well done- it goes through examples of both her highs and her lows, plus some of her coping mechanisms and thoughts about the disease. It felt pretty genuine. The rest of the story felt more surreal, and considering that Kyra loved stories and fables, it almost felt like the book was it's own story (maybe enhanced in the retelling). I'm not saying that as a bad thing- it gave the overall tone an interesting quality that made it all a bit more of a mystery.Overall, I think this was a really intriguing and unique story along the lines of a psychological thriller. Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Thank you Sourcebooks for the arc via Edelweiss. I really did not know how this was going to end. I enjoyed the characters and the theme of death and conquering fear. At times i felt like i was watching a scary movie. I look forward to reading other works of the author.

The concept is really good, though the back & forth structure of the storytelling gets annoying. There’s a nice depth to the characters of Corey and Kyra. None of the other characters are given enough attention to be very believable. The mental illness storyline is very interesting, but the ever-present supernatural, other-worldly backdrop detracts from that. As an older, more experienced reader, I’m looking for more. However, I do think this would be an appealing read to many of today’s teen girls.

The short chapters make this book easy to fly through. I have read better thrillers but this book kept my attention and that is not something I can say about all thrillers. I would recommend if you want a quick read.

At times sad, at others creepy. I can imagine an isolated town losing its collective sanity like what happens in this book. No winners here, only survivors.

The setting is one of the best parts of this book. The physical places -- natural and human-made -- really come through, and they're important. They're sometimes beautiful, sometimes peaceful, sometimes terrifying, sometimes confusing.Corey and Kyra's friendship felt so real and important and somehow both strong and fragile, like a Prince Rupert's drop. I've had a friendship like that (though it looked different), so I appreciated seeing that tension on page.I really appreciated Eileen, Roshan, Sam, and Aaron as side characters. And of all the other people in Lost, I found Piper in particular to be the creepiest.I do wish we knew more about Corey. I feel like I know her voice really well as a reader, and her relationship with Kyra over the past few years, but I only know a few other facts or stories about her. But ultimately, this feels like a book about Kyra and Corey-and-Kyra more than one about Corey, so maybe that's okay.I liked the asexual representation, but I wished Corey's questioning about her romantic orientation came through more clearly.

Creepy good book! Enjoyable read.

While the story's structure and style reminded me of Latin American telenovelas (anachronistically, of course), even the relatively light subplots - who will she marry, will her family approve - ably addressed deep themes of women's autonomy and generational gaps. The main plot - the madness of Louis Trevelyan, and his rejection and persecution of his wife, Emily - takes on the same theme. But while the subplots - Nora, Dorothy, Caroline, and their supporting casts - resolve the issues of women's rights and men's expectations of women's obedience relatively peacefully, with the key men finding ways to compromise with their women's wants and needs, Trevelyan's plot takes the conservative reaction to the extreme, with tragic results. Like Othello, Trevelyan suffers from jealousy that is mistaken and all-consuming - and Trollope both implicitly and explicitly cites Othello in the book. Trevelyan's jealousy can be read as mental illness - and Trollope addresses it as such explicitly - but also as the tragedy of the reactionary individual who can't reconcile him/herself with societal changes, and corresponding loss of status (here, of men ceding ground and authority in marriage and society to increasingly autonomous young women, and suffering - and causing others to suffer - when they can't adjust). Whether Trollope intended this second interpretation or not, I can't tell, but I certainly read it as such.This is the first Trollope novel I've read, and I'm altogether impressed: his prose style is easy and conversational. He writes with good humor, and periodically addresses the reader directly to explain or poke a little fun at his characters or situations. He's slightly satirical, but without being dismissive of or mean to his characters. All the main characters are fully fleshed-out, flawed three-dimensional beings, and even when their reactions or decisions annoyed me Trollope made sure I understood what they were thinking and why - and I found myself empathizing with them, even when I disagreed or disapproved. Achieving this outcome is no small feat, as is making a 930-page Victorian domestic novel without end-of-chapter cliffhangers or crazy plot twists, consistently gripping. But Trollope succeeds at both. I highly recommend He Knew He Was Right, even to those who are unsure they'd enjoy Trollope.

Wow! This is probably not the typical novel that one would chose to read for their first Trollope novel, but I did. This was an amazing book from start-to-finish. I found myself not being able to put it down and at over 800 pages a true page-turner nonetheless. Trollope was able to profoundly display human emotion and what power it can have on someone's own mental health. It is an amazing, yet tragic example of what the mind can do. It is well worth the read to see how love can truly cause insanity, as the book follows a man throughout his journey into madness. Read it and you won't be disappointed. In fact, you will probably want to read more Trollope novels, as I am doing now. What an amazing writer who certainly seems under appreciated. This novel is a paradigm of what excellent Victorian literature is and is one of my personal favorites.

If you are only familiar with Trollope's Barsetshire andParliamentary novel series then add this winner to your readinglist. This novel is Trollope at the top of his game!

The character who drives the story is a bit overdone but again he keeps the pages turning. If you like an old-fashioned comfortably-written novel, you should enjoy this. Trollope is always worth reading. A hopelessly jealous husband relentlessly makes his wife uncomfortable with his accusations of behavior she is innocent of. She is a strong-willed woman unwilling to give in to his demands, and this is before the advent of the modern feminist movement. Lot of fun.

The book covers several subjects, with vary basic information, not only back holes. The subjects covered are the Solar system (with a page dedicated to each planet), the Universe, Black Holes, Asteroids, and Comets. I'm including an image showing the most detailed text about black holes in the book. The content, as a whole, is an OK introduction to astronomy, probably suitable for the 3rd or 4th grade, not at all for the 6th grade, as written on the cover page.

This book is a joke! My aerospace engineer wanna be 11 year old grandson would NOT have been impressed. Seriously, save your money...make another choice if you really want this book for older kids...
