I bought this book AFTER I bought polymer physics books by de Gennes, Doi and Edwards, and Yamakawa. I don't recommend you do it in this order! Grosberg and Khokhlov's book is, in my opinion, the best one to start off with. It judiciously takes a scaling-type approach to certain discussions (in a manner similar to de Gennes) and more rigorous mathematical developments in others (similar to Doi and Edwards, but never as detailed as Yamakawa).I particularly like the way the book is arranged. Each short section (they're usually about 2 or 3 pages or so) begins with a bold face sentence which tells the main idea of the section to follow. This keeps the book coherent even when you want to skip sections.I would recommend this as your first book in polymer physics, though a reasonable background in statistical mechanics is necessary to understand the material (although very reliable sources have told me that the new book by Rubinstein and Colby is supposed to be excellent as well, but it just came out and I haven't had a chance to read it).

This is a coloring book that purports to give the colorist the ability to have a “stained glass” look to their coloring if they use wax crayons. I tried wax crayons as well as wax-based colored pencils, oil-based colored pencils, alcohol-based markers and water-based markers. While I did like the effect that I got with the wax crayons as well as I did the different effect that I got from alcohol-based markers, I can't say that it looked like a stained glass window.Using wax crayons gave the finished design a glossy look as well as a translucence. Using alcohol-based markers were translucent but not glossy. The other mediums worked okay as well but while some colors were translucent, others did not. Perhaps that was due to a color having a deeper pigment than others.Other than not agreeing with the whole stained glass concept of the book, I liked the designs. They appear to be more of a gray scale design than one with special effects. I did note that all of the designs presented a moiré pattern when I recorded the video and, to a lesser extent, when I took sample photos. Because of that, I assume that there is some sort of special print method being used to enhance the stained glass effect once the designs are colored.I found that I liked coloring the designs in the book even though I didn't feel that the end result looked like an illuminated window. The designs were easy to color if with mostly open areas to fill in. Because of the heavy dark grays, I'm not sure that someone with vision issues would find it as easy as I did.This is what I found out about the book while coloring in it and testing various coloring medium:31 Mandala style stained glass window type designsPrinted in heavy gray/black tones on one side of the pagePaper is medium weight, white, lightly rough and perforated as usual for Creative Haven coloring booksGlue bound but pages can be removed easily at perforationsDesigns stop before the perforationsAlcohol and water based markers bleed through to some degreeGel pens and India ink pens leave shadows of color on the back of the pageColoring pencils work well with this standard Creative Haven paper. Both wax and oil based pencils lay down good color, layer and blend well. Hard lead pencils leave dents on the back of the page.

Prints are much darker than I had hoped.There are only tiny spots of white spaces on the printed windows so there is no way to get a bright look without adding white in after the pieces are colored.I bought this book intending to use it for both coloring and giving me ideas for polymer clay canes. It did offer some great patterns for canes but as far as stained glass window coloring, I'll stick to Dover's. Their pages are printed on a translucent paper that truly allows the sun to shine through.Since the main use of this is for coloring pages that will resemble Rose Windows, I'm removing a few stars. That the paper has a nice hand and is printed one side only does maker the book usable, but only if the colorist is aware that the pages start out too dark to ever be able to recreate the look of Rose Windows.

This book and designs are slightly different from other I have purchased. The black lines of the designs vary in thickness. ( they are not a consistent thin outline Like the majority of books ot there ). The pages are also “framed” around the edges. This makes the finished park look a little more sophisticated and less like a coloring page. In some cases making the areas to be colored a bit smaller. This means you might want to do a little more design planning before you begin working on it. Very nice book

This coloring book is a one of a kind find. I absolutely love it, and although it recommends crayons, I used my ultra fine Sharpie markers and it achieved same effect. I ended up ordering another one of the same kind. Highly recommend this! Wish someone would come out with something like this in another book, maybe a mandala or other subject matter.

Surprised by how much I REALLY like this book!. Usually, I'm not much into the pre-shaded designs, but to me, this is a terrific exception. By using a light hand with colored pencils, slowly building up to a medium depth of color, and the result is fantastic. The pre-shading adds such dimension and depth to your work. Ya' gotta' try this one!

My daughter likes it and that's all that matters. She actually uses crayons (yes, Crayola), and once she has finished a section, she grabs a paper towel, scrubs the done portions until it becomes shiny and the dust, etc is gone from the design. It actually looks pretty.

I absolutely love this coloring book! I thought I was ordering another stained glass coloring book, the kind you use with markers and can hold up to light. This is my favorite one yet, uses crayons, which are easier on my hands. Where can I get more like it? Once colored, the page comes alive, like a 3D effect!

I thought the pages would be clear so I could hang them in the window like other “stained glass” coloring books available.. but they’re just simple designs with a lot of gray “shading” Printed on plain white paper..

Kabbalah ("that which is received," or "Tradition") is an esoteric form of Judaism, which flourished from the High Middle Ages to the seventeenth century. Even a truly basic introduction demands some prior knowledge of post-Biblical Jewish history, and exoteric Judaism; otherwise, references to names, locales, philosophical schools, and periods of time, are likely to blur together, even if briefly defined in the volume itself. For a reliable, and fairly brief, introduction, I would suggest, among many worthy titles, "Back to the Sources: Reading the Classic Jewish Texts," edited by Barry W. Holtz (1984), which covers most of the relevant literature, albeit sometimes very briefly.The leading twentieth-century scholar in the field -- in fact, the one person who did most to establish the study of Jewish mysticisms (note the plural) as intellectually respectable -- was Gershom Scholem. His collection "On the Kabblah and Its Symbolism" was originally published as "Zur Kabbala und ihrer Symbolik" in 1960, with an English translation by Ralph Manheim in 1965, from Schocken Books, and reissued with a New Foreword by Bernard McGinn, 1996. It contains five essays of increasing specificity: "Religious Authority and Mysticism," "The Meaning of the Torah in Jewish Mysticism," "Kabbalah and Myth," "Tradition and New Creation in the Ritual of the Kabbalists," and, finally, "The Idea of the Golem," or artificial human being.The essays were lectures originally delivered at the C.G. Jung's "Eranos" conferences in Zurich, in the 1950s (one of the few places where Scholem felt he could use his native German language -- and introduce to Jewish thought to a part of the intellectual elite of a continent from which Jews had been nearly obliterated.I have often recommended "Symbolism" as an introductory book; it has the great advantage of being about half the length of Scholem's "Major Trends in Jewish Mysticism" (1941, 1946, 1954; Schocken Paperback 1961; with Foreword by Robert Alter, 1995), and considerably more inviting, as well as significantly shorter, than the encyclopedia articles collected in "Kabbalah" (1974; Meridian paperback, 1978).Another collection, longer, but addressed to non-specialists, is Scholem's collection of popular and "occasional" pieces, "The Messianic Idea in Judaism, and Other Essays on Jewish Spirituality," 1971; with Foreword by Arthur Hertzberg, 1995, contains some partly duplicate material, such as another, more popular, study of the Golem; but is none the less worth trying by a relative beginner.Gershom Scholem's "On the Mystical Shape of the Godhead" ("Von der mystischen Gestalt der Gottheit," 1962; English translation, Schocken, with Foreword by Joseph Dan, 1991) is a set of six complex and elaborately documented essays, tracing specific themes in Jewish mystical thought. "Basic" is often used in English book titles to indicate "simple, or elementary." The book is too extensive to give a short summary of what it is about, this is why it is necessary to read the book. The subject of the Kabbalah has been discussed for many centuries, so many angles, so many interpretations. Ultimately it is the author though that opens the mind to quality of information. Gershom Scholem is well known for his expertise in thought and writing. Highly recommend reading this book for a true insight.

The author is incredible, but even for a layman like myself he presents it in an understandable manner. Of course there's always more to see/understand, I'll be reading this again in the future.

I bought the book on the recommendation of a psychologist we were seeing for my son's anxiety. I wasn't sure I liked the idea of homework for me - I thought we were trying to help my kid! lol But seriously, this book helped me make changes in my own attitudes and behaviors to help him begin to see his own role and responsibilities in his life. I can't say it's a cure all, but I will say that it was a huge help and well worth the time reading.

I'm really loving this book. Even though it's aimed towards parenting kids, I've found it helpful towards both children and adult relationships. I've been employing some of the techniques and am seeing results already, which is impressive.One of the things I like about the layout is that it doesn't spend tons of chapters giving background, only to finally hit the meat of the book at the end. Each chapter addresses something specific and gives practical advice on fixing the issue. So you can read only one chapter and still benefit from the book. You can also go back to a specific chapter when you're having a specific issue.

I have a 5.5 year old that likes to give me problems, especially when Dad leaves for work every other month. This book made a HUGE difference in how she and I interact. Last month when he left, I was at my wits end and we were both in tears most nights. After reading this book, we have a much better relationship. I like how this book has a more old school approach..so many parents these days are told to let their kids have more freedom etc, but in reality, kids need structure and guidance. Accountability is huge and that is what has made the biggest difference in my life with my kid..this book teaches you how to explain to your child that everything that happens in their life is in direct correlation with the choices they make. Its a simple concept once you "get" it. Plus you have to 100% stick to your guns. I am an atheist and I still recommend this book to anyone.

Very fun book purchased by me a 53 year old that ran across this book and another similar by accident. I had to have it for me! Yes, I'm 53, but the books are lovely and I have my two new books in a spare room that is decorated for a little girl. My husband thought I was crazy, but this and Piggy Goes to Prada are just lovely and I read them both!

I was really looking forward to receiving this book. I worked in the fashion industry designing dresses and fashion has always been part of my life and now that I have three daughters we share this passion. I was so excited about this book in fact, that I ordered two. One for my daughter's best friend. We got the book and all was good until we got to the page about lying. It states, "...she rarely told the truth. She constantly rearranged and romanticised the facts of her life story. She would even tell lies in confession!" I get it.. She was from very humble beginnings that she would make up her life. But in a book for little girls called "Different like Coco," is lying a good trait to have to be different? I find the word lying very negative and bad portrayal of character. I wish the author had worded this differently. She could have said that Coco was always embellishing her truth because she wanted more and she was a dreamer... or could have omitted the sentence of "rarely told the truth" and the one about "lying." Lying is a serious issue not something kids should strive for in trying to be different. Just look at what happened to Ryan Lochte. It does not matter if you have gold medals lying will not get you far. So yes.. I have a big issue with this book and I am wondering if to return, tear page apart or white it out. I do not recommend.

I love the illustration but the story is definitely not for a kid...or even a teenager. It says in several pages that Coco was thin and she would make clothes for slender women. Okay, that might be true in the fashion world but do we want to stick these ideas in a child's mind to be thin in order to look good or fit into fancy clothes?There are better books out there for children. I'll just keep this one for myself since I like Chanel and ill just give it to my daughter when she's old enough to understand that body image is not important. Slender or voluptuous does not define anyone.Also, it gives an image of Chanel asking her lover for money so she can open her boutique - it happened, I saw the movie, but come one! It's a childrens book!

Wow! Quite a story.

As a long time Chanel fan, I got this book for my 9 year old niece and she loved it! Even though she is only 9, she enjoyed the story line of a little orphan girl who ended up being rich and famous. At first I thought the book would be to difficult for her to follow, but it really wasn't. It told Coco's life story very appropriately for girls her age. The illustrations on this book are really cute! I know that one day my niece will one day love everything Chanel just like the women in her family!

My girlfriend loved this book as part of a Christmas present. She is a big fan of Coco!

I love this book!! The cover is this fantastic soft paper over the hard cover and inside is told the life story of Coco Chanel in a colorful and liberating way. I read it and then read it again and made my mother read it. Enjoy the read.
