Absolutely positively amazing

This was a fun book I like the way you put other stories with it. I love this book. Hayley

I love Melanie Marks's romance story, but I have to agreed with the other readers that this is a retold story. This story was retold from the original story "High School Boy" and "Kissing". I love the characters Matt and Nicole, but I wish the storyline is a new scenario. It feels wrong for the author to charge $2.99 for repeating a same story, changed the dialogues and changed one or two characters to make it look like a new story. It seems the author did the same things to other story like "Griffin", "His Kiss" and "Mason and Summer". I believe this is Melanie's writing style. I love good romance story, but it feels wrong to pay over and over for the same story.

For me, this story is developing WAY TOO SLOW. It's so obvious that that Matt still likes you Nicole! He MUST have some reasonable explaination for going to the dance with Nina. I'm not even going to list the signs that he still likes Nicole because there is just way too many. And I also think that Nicole is the one at fault. Just because you can't date yet it shouldn't effect other people unless you know that person loves you. Which, of course in this case it is friendship. It did turn out that Matt likes Nicole but there was totally a chance that he didn't, but of course he does and and I knew that from the start cuz it's a love story. But I can't stop thinking that in real life, you can't just get mad at a boy that actually WANTS to date a person that's not you. In good stories you should be able to like the protagonist but in this case, I just think that Nicole is an unreasonable and fustrating person.:(

My 9 year old daughter purchased this book on our tablet and she really enjoyed it. I reviewed it first by skimming through the book, and I didn't see anything that would be inappropriate for her age. She read this book quickly and it kept her interest.

Another super cute story by Melanie Marks. As a school librarian, I always get excited to see a new book from Melanie. The students love her stories and characters. They will be especially excited to hear more about Matt and Nicole. I know when I add a Melanie Marks book to my collection, it will be a favorite amongst the girls. I love it that these middle school books, really are "middle school" books. They don't rush kids to grow up too fast. It is nice for them to read about characters they can relate to and learn from. Thanks Melanie for providing us with great reading material and entertainment.

The book was amazing like every time I wanted to stop reading I couldn't put the book down it ready showed how Matt and Nicole feel about each other and if you want to know how they first met read the slumber party wars the slumber party wars starts off kind of boring but once you get to like the middle of the book it's really good.

I loved reading this to my son, who is almost three. The text has a beautiful rhyming cadence. The message is straight-forward and easy for a child to understand. The pictures are charming and exceedingly well done. And the whole little story is a delight. I'm very happy with this purchase.

What an awesome book for little ones (infants, toddlers and preschoolers) to introduce them to all of the aspects as Mass that they see each week. Helpful for my toddler in learning new words and leads to a little deeper discussion for my preschooler. This will be my new go-to Baptism gift (along with a chewable rosary)!

I was really excited about this book but was disappointed when we received it. The Illustrations are beautiful so that was nice but it feels like it is a really short book and it feels like it is missing something (could we have included seeing people read the readings and the priest read the gospel??Maybe more Mass parts??). My 2 year old is already pretty engaged in the Mass and this book just isn't enough for her. Contemplating returning it.

I was very disappointed with the content of this book. With all that takes place during Mass I expected it to follow a MASS. The pictures are well done. I would have gladly spent $5 not a penny more for the lack of a story. The boy sees:Holy Water, A Priest, Saints, Alter, Crucifix, incense, family praying and the Eucharist.

My granddaughter liked this book and wanted me to read it several times in the same day. She is a preschooler and is a little curious about God and why I go to church. I recommend it.

Such a sweet book! Perfect for little ones to help encourage their understanding of what is going on at Mass. We bought a copy for our home library as well as one for our son's Kindergarten teached, because this book should be shared. It's wonderful!

Age appropriate and clearly written.

My Son (5 years old) loved this book! He loved guessing what was coming next on each page. Beautiful illustrations as well!

I read this in high school and was shocked at what a group of people were capable of doing to hurt others that did them no harm. In 2018, I see it happening again in the witch hunt against the president and conservatives with the "heresy" of having different political views. It was a mob mentality in historic Salem and it is a mob mentality now. I don't think this was written as an instruction manual but neither were1984 and Brave New World yet here we are.

I've never seen the play or any odd the movies, but the book was really good. It centers around Abigail Williams and John Proctor. Abigail was one of the leaders of the girls who accused townspeople of being witches. In real life, she was only 11, but she is an older teenager in the play. John Proctor is a well thought of farmer. In actuality, he was 60 years old, but his character is in his 30's in the play. The characters are fairly historically correct. I enjoyed researching to find out what history says happened after reading Miller's work.

The great play by Arthur Miller needs no additional review. However the print-on-demand industry and the widespread publication of books that are PROTECTED by copyright does. The copy of The Crucible i received does not have a copyright page, is clearly a print-on-demand product, and as such i question if the author's decendents will receive even a penny from the sale of this book. When buying a book online from anyone, i urge people to recognize that these works -- even classics written by authors long gone -- are still are protected from folks or companies that are essentially picking the pockets of authors ONLY because they can. Would you buy a panting that you knew was stolen from the artist, alive or dead? If all that matters to you is getting a good deal just remember -- what goes around comes around.

“All My Sons” is at its heart a play about how we deal with those who we love and / or greatly admire when they let us down. Are our expectations too high, or should people live up to the standard that others set for them? Arthur Miller does not give us an answer (of course) but there are moments in this drama that get us pretty close.Like a lot of Miller “All My Sons” deals with a father and son relationship that can never meet the burden of expectation BOTH father and son have put on it. In this manner it resembles “Death of a Salesman” quite a bit. The play is written in three acts. A simple structure: first act sets up the characters and relationships, second act lets us in on the dramatic issue of the play, third act shows us how the characters we have come to know deal with the issue revealed in Act 2.I don’t want to give away any plot points. I was lucky enough to pick up this play knowing very little about it. I won’t ruin that for others here. However, I will say that for an actor and reader the Keller family (the main protagonists of the play) come across as characters with dimension and depth. Mr. Miller has written some great roles here, with a lot of unspoken issues for actors to play with. This text is a quick read, but one that will creep up on you. Like the best of Miller, it deals with a situation that almost any human can relate to, disappointment in someone we love. It will last because that is a part of the human condition and Miller has captured it with all its love, pain, and consequences.I will be seeing a professional production of this piece next week and I imagine it will only enhance my appreciation for this text.

The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a very well written account of the Salem Witch Trials and provides an incredible portrait of the complexities of the human soul. It's hard to believe that people allowed this travesty to occur. Are there people today who would fall into this type of situation? Absolutely.That is what is so scary about the Salem Witch Hunt. We must continue to remember this event in order to make sure it doesn't happen again.I highly recommend this excellent work by Mr. Miller.

One of the masterpieces of US drama. Although it has four acts it flowed forcefully from the first to last page. A must for anyone interested in the theatre or US literature. In every respect, characterization, plot, dialogue and the interplay of all elements, an incredible and poetic work of art. It is about the only thing that separates the human race from all other species, integrity and values other than self preservation. One of the few plays in US literature that has the power of classical works of the Greeks and Shakespeare.

The quintessential allegory inveighing against spreading political lies to gin up support for your side out of fear of some other enemy. Miller compares the McCarthy hearings not only to the Salem Witch Trials, but also to Stalin's "Show Trials" of the 1930's. Considering the target of his intellectual wrath claimed the mantle of being the savior of America from the "Red Menace," writing the dialogue of the witch trials to so closely coincide with that used by Stalin's henchmen was brilliant.

This review is for the audiobook with Julie Harris and James Farentino. This is an excellent, but intense and painful play written by Arthur Miller. The story has to do with misconduct within a business with tragic consequences. The performance is excellent. I hate to think about what it would be like to have anything to do with any part of a situation like this. I loved the play and the performance, but it is not fun. Thank You...

Taking the three musketeers out of their Texas comfort zone added interest to the tale, while introducing us to a delightful real life destination to visit. Blake, Bethani and Megan evolved as strong positive characters while dealing with their own side story.Definitely a winner, and Congrats to Cutter and Genny!

I loved Fooled by Randomness and Black Swan and seriously disliked the Antifragility. I am very glad to say that with the Skin in the Game Taleb is back. Opinionated, at times rude and angry, but someone you feel you should listen to.When I buy books I usually read one star reviews. Some of them are crap (my book arrived with six missing pages!), but some give you a pretty good idea of what you are going to find. There is one star review that gets close to 5000 words limit, followed by the long thread of comments exchange where the replies by the original author get, again, to the said limit. If someone gets that fired up by the book that he regurgitates thousands of words - it's well worth a few bucks and I simply must read it.Anyway, as always with Taleb, I now have a new reading list based on his footnotes. Yes, he comes across as an angry man. Yes, he has irrational dislike of academics (as do I) and policy makers. Yes, some of his statements are contradictory and yes, sometimes he goes too far in his arguments. But this is exactly what makes books worthwhile the time spent reading them. Contradictions have to be sorted, but to do so you have to think about the subject and come to your own conclusions, and this involves effort, and this is what makes books stimulating.I highly recommend this book.

Skin in the Game is at the same time thought-provoking and original but also contradictory and sometimes absurd.Let’s start with the cons:1. I certainly won’t be the first to notice that Taleb can be mean-spirited. But why does he insist on presenting his views in this way? The communication of his ideas, often profound, does not require a mean-spirited or condescending tone. For however brilliant Taleb thinks he is, his skills in persuasion are severely lacking; he’s alienating a significant readership that may have otherwise been more receptive to his ideas.Not very far into the book we see Taleb take cheap shots at Steven Pinker, out of nowhere, discussing a topic that has nothing to do with any of Pinker’s actual ideas or positions. One wonders why Taleb cannot just present his ideas without the incessant personal attacks and condescension.2. His overall philosophy appears to be self-refuting. He reviles “intellectuals,” professors, and thinkers while praising “doers” and men of practice. He’s particularly distrustful of those who give advice for a living. Here’s Taleb:“Avoid taking advice from someone who gives advice for a living, unless there is a penalty for their advice.”So should we then ignore THIS advice? As far as I can tell, Skin in the Game is a work of philosophy, an intellectual exercise that argues against the value of intellectual exercise. This is the same self-refuting logic of relativism—in that the statement “everything is relative” is self-refuting because the statement itself needs to be absolute.If Taleb is wrong in any part of his philosophy it doesn’t appear that he would incur any penalty (no skin in the game). The upside for him is book sales with little to no downside risk, so by using his own logic we should conclude to not trust him.Also, to the extent that you believe ideas have power you might find yourself disagreeing with Taleb’s extreme position that no good ideas could possibly come from someone in an academic position (particularly from the reviled economists).Except that Taleb uses economic theories to frame his thinking. The Tragedy of the Commons, something Taleb discusses in his book, was developed by the economist William Forster Lloyd in his armchair. Even Taleb’s Black Swan concept is a reformulation of the Peso problem developed by...economists.I’m sure anyone can think up examples, rather easily, of useful ideas that were discovered by intellectuals or from university research.3. Taleb obsesses about the superiority of practice over academics and theory. This is a questionable proposition.As just one example, a recent study in the American Journal of Medicine concluded that “patients whose doctors had practiced for at least 20 years stayed longer in the hospital and were more likely to die compared to those whose doctors got their medical license in the past five years.”My own personal experience corroborates this, as a medical student was able to correctly diagnose what the attending physician had missed on a trip to the ER. Very experienced, practical individuals sometimes perpetuate bad habits and fail to keep informed of the theories and academics that lead to better practice. This point is completely lost on Taleb.4. Taleb’s definition of rationality as any action that promotes survival is patently false, as a simple thought experiment can show. Imagine a hypothetical survival machine is available for your use. By plugging yourself in, it will guarantee and maximize your life span and, on a social scale, maximizes reproduction. The price is that the machine also inflicts a high degree of pain and cuts you off from contact with other people.According to the logic of Taleb, the rational thing to do would be to plug into this machine. Of course, no one would volunteer to do this because survival is not what motivates rational behavior. Any rational agent would choose one year of pleasant life over 100 years in the survival machine, because actions have value according to how they promote or are perceived to promote well-being or pleasure.Taleb, using this more believable definition of rationality, could have used it to argue the same points, namely how religious belief cannot be called irrational if it promotes well-being, which includes psychological well-being and survival but not survival alone.The pros:That Taleb is antagonistic and holds some questionable views does not mean that he’s wrong about everything. When not being demeaning or taking extreme positions, Taleb writes about some of the most original, thought-provoking, and profound ideas. And even when you find yourself disagreeing with him, he makes you think. For this reason alone, the book is worth checking out.The idea that the extent of people’s stakes in particular outcomes is a critical yet underrated determinant of events is a profound idea with several implications, which Taleb skillfully explores throughout the book. And his idea that you should have to pay some kind of penalty for decisions that negatively impact others—risk sharing vs. risk transfer—is a solid framework for thinking about a host of issues. Of course, these ideas would be easier to swallow if presented with a little more humility, but I suppose we should know what to expect from Taleb by now.

If you hate BS, this is the book for you. Stop being "bullied" for what you think by academics and journalists who have no skin in the game. They have nothing to lose by being wrong (Think Viet Nam, Syrian, the 2008 economic melt down). Trust the do-ers who suffer the consequences for being wrong ( business people who take risks), This book has to be studied. It follows from Mr. Taleb's previous work which provides the science and mathematics behinds this work. It requires a "deep dive" and understanding. A casual book reviewer or journalist would not have an easy time reviewing this book. Be prepared to study, the results are very rewarding not matter what your field of interest.
