I sent this book to my daughter who lives in Nevada and loves birds. She also loves the book and says it was very informative.

It was what we were looking for, but thought it was more of a book than a pamphlet. That was not explained in the description. Wanted a book with more detail, this does not have that.

This is really nice because it contains more of the "area specific" birds that I wanted to know. Good job...

Very helpful.

Sergio Leone is hands-down one of my favorite directors in all of cinema, and he is given a thorough and nuanced examination in this definitive biography by Christopher Frayling. No stone is left unturned as is covers everything from his childhood upbringing and influences through to his final projects and death. There is a wealth of information on all of the behind-the-scenes details of his short, but impressive, filmography and also a balance in perspective, as Leone was known to embellish stories about himself. Not only that, but all of the information is contextualized in terms of Italian and world cinema. This should be read by any serious Leone fan, but really any cinephile would benefit from it.

There aren't too many directors who could inspire me to read a 576-page tome about their career. In fact, apart from a handful of auteurs to whom I'm still trying to speak and the dozen or so who have opened their hearts to Cashiers du Cinemart, there aren't too many directors I'd even like to read about. Yet, of all directors-past and present-it's only Sergio Leone's name that I've been scanning for when I troll the "directors biographies" section at Borders Bookstore. Sure, sure, maybe it'd be fun to read a nicely done work on Fritz Lang or Kenji Misumi but it's Leone who presents me with the biggest challenges. This Italian mastermind helmed a handful of films, nearly all of which would rank among my favorites. More than creating some damn fine work, Leone's style influenced untold filmmakers. His films were operas powered by the music of Ennio Morricone. His dialogue's sparseness made it all the more powerful. Leone didn't shy away from embracing the language of cinema and creating his own dialect.Remarkably, though Leone's filmography can be tallied on both hands, the breadth of rumours and conflicting stories are enough to easily fill Frayling's tome. Luckily, Fraying isn't above questioning the veracity of his subject. While never denying Leone respect, Frayling doesn't shirk his journalistic duty to present as many facets of the fiery, passive-aggressive auteur as possible.Something to Do with Death takes its sweet time to get moving (I had to skip the second chapter and skim a few others before getting to the real "meat" of the book) but, once it gets going, there's little that can deter the reader from delving into the life of a truly enigmatic talent. (ISBN: 0571164382)

There are two kinds of readers. Those who have read this book and those who are ignorant about Sergio Leone.

Loving this book right now. Watching Sergio Leones films simultaneously as each chapter talks about them.....must have for Cineastes!

This is THE book on Leone, incredibly researched, sourced and written. Offers insight on the production of all of his work as well as the man himself. A must-have for fans!

great book . lot of info on both once upon a time in the west and once upon a time in america , leone's 2 greatest films.

Totally great thank you

A little too in depth for me. While Frayling writes in great detail about Leone's inspirations, and film making process. I came away not really liking Sergio. Whenever a writer starts going into all of the minute film genre's.... I'm falling asleep. And I did a lot with this book. BUT.... I did finish it. The main thing I took away from Frayling's telling of Leone's story is that Sergio was a very insecure man. And he hid it well by being an ass.

I love this brand of maps - Streetwise! I usually always buy this brand when traveling because they are easy to carry and very durable. The map included all of London and went farther outside the city as well. If you are just visiting London I can't imagine that you would need a map that included any area farther out that what this map covers. Another great feature of this map is that it has a very detailed map of the Underground lines of London It includes all of the tube lines and is color coded just like the maps you see at the stations. Since we mainly used the tubes to travel around London it was great to have the map with us at all times so we knew which stops were on which lines and where to catch them. The map was very accurate and we never found anything wrong with any of the street names or any of the markers. There is a lengthy list of streets, hotels and parks as well with a guide to tell you where that particular place is on the grid.So you might be asking, why do I need a map if I have a phone with GPS? The answer is simple - there is really nothing like having it all laid out in front of you so you can plan your day relative to where everything you want to see is. The problem with using a phone is the coverage is sometimes spotty and the screen is so small it is hard to tell how far things are. We definitely used our phones' GPS apps to find places but having a map was extremely useful in planning out our itinerary and it was nice to pull out when we wanted to find a tube station. This is my review rating system:5 Stars: Awesome! I would definitely purchase this product again.4 Stars: Great but not perfect I would probably buy this again but I had a few issues with it!3 Stars: Good and would look around to see if I could find something better before I repurchased.2 Stars: Not Good and would not buy again.1 Star: Stay Away! Not worth anything you pay for it.

This is great for trip planning. We bought this so that we can circle the sights and areas that we want to see with a sharpie, so that we can plan our days for sightseeing more effectively. Once you are done, you can wipe the map clean with hand sanitizer .

I have used Streetwise maps for years, and must admit to owning quite the stable of Streetwise maps. As soon as I know I'm going to be spending some time in a city, the first things I check is whether there is a Streetwise map. They are an extremely convenient form factor, and I usually plot out my route then stash the map so I can confidently make my way through a city like a native. Yes, the print is on the smaller size, but that's necessarily true of almost any map.For the person who complained that this map mainly covered Central London and didn't show every little alleyway: that's a benefit! If you're going primarily to fairly common Central London locations the Streetwise map is preferable to maps like London A-Z or NFT London where you're overwhelmed with tiny mews that only the people who live on them need know about or are madly flipping pages to figure out how something stuck down in a corner of one page relates to where you are or the nearest Tube station. In truth, you may wish to have both Streetwise and London A-Z as they complement each other. But for getting the big picture with enough detail to get where you need to go, Streetwise is invaluable and my first choice go-to map.

I have been using this map for years but as my sight needs a bit more help I tried StreetSmart with it's slightly larger printing. For some reason I just could not get used to it and gave it to a lost person on the streets of London. The original sellers of Streetwise stopped making them and mine is getting pretty tatty but I was very thrilled to find they are out again now by Michelin...same style/look/etc.. Is it the best? For me, YES!

On a recent visit to London we had phone GPS, but I still found myself using this streetwise map constantly. Very handy in the back pocket for checking the subway map. It's also a handy way to discuss a destination or show the relationship between places when deciding where to go and what to do. Sturdy, inexpensive, very useful.Carrying it where people can see it does give you away as a tourist, but are we really fooling anyone anyway?

I like these Streetwise maps because they are laminated and thus are durable and will not rip like paper maps. They are a simple accordion fold, so easy to fold and unfold. They have indexes of streets and major points of interest to travelers. Every street in an area is shown and named, not just major streets. The London map also has a color-coded map of the London Tube system, and the map shows where all the stations are indicated. This is enormously helpful and makes it easy to get around London. Overall it is superior to paper maps.

I'm past the height of my traveling days. I love maps, however, to help me "remember when" and also to "see" a scene through a character's eyes. As I read many books with roots in the UK, this Streetwise London Map - Laminated City Center Street Map of London, England and the country-wide Michelin Guide by my side do the trick. If you're nervous about the claim of indestructibility, don't be. The map is some kind of light-weight, easy-to-fold plastic/paper, not a laminated thing sure to crack and break down. Well done, gents! As for you travelers, use this map as a guide to what you want to see and then walk or use The Tube to get there. The traffic in London is horrible and don't spend your valuable vacation time stuck in traffic. Buses are cheap, but they, too, get stuck in traffic.I spent a summer in England, including two months study at Oxford. As a typical American girl, I left behind my beloved VW Bug and personal "boom-box." The mass-trans is so good I never missed having a car, wherever I went, and the peace and calm IS there to be found.

Best read in conjunction with John Rawls' "A Theory of Justice," Nozick's book is a classic of political thought. He advances a simple, elegant, and difficult-to-argue-with libertarianism, one that forms a foundation for libertarian thinking today. Whether or not you agree with him, this is essential reading for anyone trying to understand libertarian philosophy today.

Very interesting read for anyone interested in a very logic-chain based political science/philosophy argument. Keep in mind that it's very dense and takes a very close read to grasp, but it doesn't waste words and is concise in its arguments. The classic read for a libertarian.

Nozick's work has long been regarded as a staple of political philosophy, and with good reason. His prose is engaging, and his logic compelling. Nozick is an excellent and insightful critic of the state; between just the two of them, his Wilt Chamberlain and Tale of a Slave illustrations roundly demolish pretty much all arguments for a central state, but he goes into far more depth as well. The final section -- Utopia -- is rather interesting, as Nozick takes a somewhat eclectic viewpoint, arguing that utopia is the journey and not the destination. He spends little time on existing utopian theory, instead pointing out (rightly) the flaws common to virtually all of it, and then discussing an alternative way of considering the idea.Where Nozick is weakest is his treatment of the alleged necessity of the minimal state; despite thinking he has answered the objections of individualist anarchists, he has at best dodged them. He finishes his treatment of the subject with an entire chapter full of silly utilitarianism, theorising about means of maximising total utils without ever explaining what a util is or how one could possibly measure it, and declares the matter settled. Yet never does he explain what mechanism actually makes it okay to put a gun to somebody's head and extract revenue; perhaps that makes the utils come out.Overall, this is a highly engaging book, and a must-read for any serious student of political philosophy.

A very challenging work of philosophy. Not an easy read, but a very rewarding one; Robert Nozick clearly and exhaustively lays out the groundwork for a truly ethical and consistent analysis of politics and government. The book arrived promptly and was exactly as advertised. Excellent service.

Excellent analysis on the morally appropriate organization of a state from many angles. The reasoning is complex at times and the narrative is not always easy to follow, but the conclusions are well thought out and compelling.Definitely recommended for everyone interested in political philosophy no matter what your current opinions are on the subject. The book is not just presenting one “truth”, but explores a number of alternative views with a conclusion well grounded in the arguments presented. I don’t think you need to agree with the author’s conclusions, at least I enjoyed and was impressed by the quality of the argumentation as such.

Nozick's book is difficult to read, but it is worth the effort. One does not read AS&U from front to back. One must read, reread, reflect, and reread again to understand the ideas offered. People who have not read and understood the ideas of Nozick and his colleague John Rawls really should not bother with writing about the political economy, for they have nothing useful or interesting to say.

Robert Nozick's Anarchy State and Utopia attempts to provide three different arguments for two different conclusions. The first argument is that anarchy is an impossible system, and thus it is necessary (both morally and practically) to have at least a minimal state. The second argument is that there are no practical, moral, or positive reasons to institute provisions into a state more than a minimal state. The final argument is that a utopian world is one where individuals are free to decide the utopian model they prefer without external limitations prohibiting that decision (outside of those set within each particular small community that, if they did not exist, would fundamentally change the character of that particular community). I found both his arguments and conclusions convincing, and many of his views on the nature of rights I found compelling.Still, his writing style can be difficult. He is an academic (a Harvard academic no less), and his chief concern is addressing other academics and people who would understand these academics. He does not go as far as Immanuel Kant in Prolegomena to Any Future Metaphysics and say that if you do not understand him that the subject is too advanced for you and you should give up on political philosophy. Nevertheless, it should be stated somewhere that if you cannot grasp his ideas, you need to read the source texts in order to gain that foundational knowledge. Of these foundational texts, John Rawls's A Theory of Justice may be the most important. I personally have only read excerpts. This made part 2, which addresses Rawls's book directly, significantly more difficult to appreciate. The book receives four out of five stars because readability is crucially important. While most of his targeted audience would understand his prose, this does not mean that he could not attempt to make the writing more consumable by more people. Every writer must make it their mission to have the widest possible audience, and he did not.

Nozick explains in clear and insightful ways for a libertarian view that ennobles the individual, but at the same time maintaining an appropriate role for the state. He has many examples and unlike many philosophers, he is funny; there are examples and anecdotes that will make you laugh. Nozick is the best counter example to Rawls.

Review

Praise for Alice“Careful, this white rabbit will lead you on a psychotic journey through the bowels of magic and madness. I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed the ride.”—Brom, author of The Child Thief   “I loved falling down the rabbit hole with this dark, gritty tale. A unique spin on a classic and one wild ride!”—Gena Showalter, New York Times bestselling author of Alice in Zombieland   “A dark, delightfully disturbing fall down a rabbit hole of madness and mystery. This is not your mamma’s Alice…If you’re looking for a book that will make you feel like you were just on a bender with the blue caterpillar, I highly recommend Alice.”—R.S. Belcher, author of Nightwise“Christina Henry’s Alice takes the darker elements of Lewis Carroll’s original, amplifies Tim Burton’s cinematic reimagining of the story, and adds a layer of grotesquery from her own alarmingly fecund imagination to produce a novel that reads like a Jacobean revenge drama crossed with a slasher movie."—The Guardian (UK)“A horrifying fantasy that will have you reexamining your love for this childhood favorite. Smooth velvety prose blends well with the deliciously complex characters and interesting storyline...A world that is nothing like Lewis Carroll ever imagined.”—RT Book Reviews (top pick)   “Hands down one of the most imaginative and entertaining books I’ve read all year.”—Vampire Book Club   “A dark and deeply disturbing revisit of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Who wouldn’t like it?”—Kirkus Reviews“Henry retains all the surreality of Carroll’s tale but makes it even darker, leading readers down a scarier rabbit hole and into a city that’s fantastical, scary and frankly more satisfying than Carroll’s original...The writing is brisk, the story compulsive…A fun, chilling, exciting, magical read.”—The Oklahoman

This book is hard to describe. So, Alice is found after her adventure in "wonderland", bloody and with a knife in her hand. Something traumatic happened to her and a she is repeating the same phrase over and over again. She can't remember any of the details of what happened to her when her parents find her and they send her away to an insane asylum. She is locked up for years and becomes friends with a man named Hatcher in the room next to hers. One day they are able to escape the asylum, but something dark (the Jabberwocky) is following them. The setting is not defined in the book. The author didn't really give much description of the settings, and was told through more dialog and actions. Alice is from the "New City" where everything is hunky dory and the rich live up high. Alice ends up following Hatcher (portrayed as the Mad Hatter) who lives in the "Old City" where the poor, crime and gangs thrive. The plot of the story is of Alice helping Hatcher find a magical blade that will kill the Jabberwocky. She meets the Caterpillar, Cheshire and the Rabbit in the adventure. But they are not the classic characters that you know. They are actually people who are leaders of a gang and own certain parts of the Old City. This story is a dark tale and not something that would be on a Disney dvd. There are a lot of chapters based on violence, murder, sex and abuse. There is somewhat of a "wonderland" feel to some parts of the book, but nothing on the level of the original "Alice in Wonderland". I did start reading this book thinking that the characters and setting were going to be like the Caroll version of the story, but it wasn't. I was dissapointed at first, but as a fan of horror/thriller books, it held my interest. You could have changed all the characters names to something that does not relate to "Alice in Wonderland", and never would have known that it was based off that story. It's a completly different kind of evil Wonderland tale. I am glad that I read it to the end.

Original ideas in placing important Wonderland characters in a new setting.A fun and quick read. I've even passed it on to friends who I think will enjoy it.My only issue is the continual trope in various Alice books, like this one, of Madness == Brutal Violence. I keep hoping for an Alice book that truly explores madness, or what we know as psychosis and schizophrenia.I bought the book based on the opening free chapter section. In which it seems this exploration will occur. But it only skims the surface before turning to 'magical-realism' to resolve the conundrums.I would venture to guess that the majority of those suffering from strong delusional psychosis are not in fact prone to violence unless cornered and manhandled. It's a media trope that has long created extreme misunderstanding and unwarranted fear.Back on topic:I think the Alice genre is worthy of a few books, in various settings, which actually dive into the psyche of the protagonist, deal with real psychosis, or some magical version thereof.

Synopsis:In Christina Henry’s Alice, we are first introduced to our protagonist Alice as she lies within an asylum, 10 years after having escaped the Rabbit. Left with no past memories of her previous imprisonment or escape from the rabbit, her only remaining piece of sanity comes in the form of a friendship developed with Hatcher who happens to share the room next to her. The spend their days communicating through a mouse-hole never actually seeing more than a glimpse of one another. One evening a fire erupts and the unlikely pair escape together and flee deep within to Old Town.Alice and Hatcher soon discover however, that they are not the only ones who have fled from the burning asylum that housed them for so many years. The Jabberwocky has been released from the bowels below and is on the hunt. A beast that will destroy everything within its path, and it is now on their trail. Solely tasked with seeking out the a magical blade that can defeat the Jabberwocky, the unlikely pair find themselves forced to face their grisly past as they delve deeper into Old City encountering the territorial bosses such as Cheshire and Caterpillar. My Take on Things:Alice is exactly as it appears to be at first glance, a retelling of the classic Alice in Wonderland. However, looks can be very deceiving. Alice in Wonderland has been one of my absolute favorite stories for as long as I can remember, so I always feel a mixture of excitement and hesitation when it comes to new adaptations of this timeless tale. It has been re-envisioned multiple times throughout the years in many forms. I have enjoyed and occasionally found disappointment in many Wonderland themed stories, video games, movies and even manga.Christine Henry has taken this classic tale and stripped it of all happiness and whimsy. The end result is a unique and disturbing twist on the story of Alice and her adventures that is not going to be for everyone. The setting is dark, gruesome and does contain sexual violence. They characters we have come to know over the years take on an entirely new and psychotic persona in this macabre tale.I found myself completing Alice within two days. As a fan of horror and Wonderland themes, I was unable to put this title down. Christina Henry’s writing was fluid and Alice managed to seize my interest during the first chapter. Character development was appropriately paced, building the mystery and intrigue that I have come to expect in a good horror title. I would have easily provided this book with five stars where it not for the ending. While I did not find the ending entirely disappointing, it felt as though the story became rushed during the final chapters. There was a point where everything began to move faster than necessary while I was left expecting more detail from the character encounters. However, the overall result was a terrifying and original spin on a classic that is worth reading. This will not be the last title I read from Christina Henry. I am looking forward to the Red Queen.

The Bluest Eye, by Toni Morrison

Amazon.com Review

Oprah Book Club® Selection, April 2000: Originally published in 1970, The Bluest Eye is Toni Morrison's first novel. In an afterword written more than two decades later, the author expressed her dissatisfaction with the book's language and structure: "It required a sophistication unavailable to me." Perhaps we can chalk up this verdict to modesty, or to the Nobel laureate's impossibly high standards of quality control. In any case, her debut is nothing if not sophisticated, in terms of both narrative ingenuity and rhetorical sweep. It also shows the young author drawing a bead on the subjects that would dominate much of her career: racial hatred, historical memory, and the dazzling or degrading power of language itself. Set in Lorain, Ohio, in 1941, The Bluest Eye is something of an ensemble piece. The point of view is passed like a baton from one character to the next, with Morrison's own voice functioning as a kind of gold standard throughout. The focus, though, is on an 11-year-old black girl named Pecola Breedlove, whose entire family has been given a cosmetic cross to bear: You looked at them and wondered why they were so ugly; you looked closely and could not find the source. Then you realized that it came from conviction, their conviction. It was as though some mysterious all-knowing master had given each one a cloak of ugliness to wear, and they had each accepted it without question.... And they took the ugliness in their hands, threw it as a mantle over them, and went about the world with it. There are far uglier things in the world than, well, ugliness, and poor Pecola is subjected to most of them. She's spat upon, ridiculed, and ultimately raped and impregnated by her own father. No wonder she yearns to be the very opposite of what she is--yearns, in other words, to be a white child, possessed of the blondest hair and the bluest eye. This vein of self-hatred is exactly what keeps Morrison's novel from devolving into a cut-and-dried scenario of victimization. She may in fact pin too much of the blame on the beauty myth: "Along with the idea of romantic love, she was introduced to another--physical beauty. Probably the most destructive ideas in the history of human thought. Both originated in envy, thrived in insecurity, and ended in disillusion." Yet the destructive power of these ideas is essentially colorblind, which gives The Bluest Eye the sort of universal reach that Morrison's imitators can only dream of. And that, combined with the novel's modulated pathos and musical, fine-grained language, makes for not merely a sophisticated debut but a permanent one. --James Marcus

This book is really difficult to read if you're sensitive to themes of child sexual abuse, general child abuse, racism, and some animal abuse. Honestly, if you've been abused I wouldn't recommend it unless you have to read it for a class because it takes the perspective of the rapist during the rape scene which was really difficult for me to read personally.HOWEVER, if you haven't experienced abuse, this is a really important book. It gives you an important and vastly underrepresented perspective on the ways systems built on racism and neglect fail children of color and allow for horrific things to happen to them, and the narration of the book is actually beautiful and very compelling. It is hard to read, it is difficult subject material, but push through it. It's a good and worthwhile book.

This is a MUST read. This book is dark and powerful, poetic and real. All at once feeling like you want to run into the main character's vulnerable pain but wanting to look away at the same time. Morrison's command of writing is perfection. Absolute perfection. The forward is also very helpful to read to give context to when she wrote it, her approach and what she may have wanted to change. Wonderful to read an artist's self-reflection. If you're a white woman looking to learn more about black women and men's experiences of internalized and institutionalized racism and dismantle your privilege, this book is for you. Be prepared to cry and think hard.

One day, i was working on contract in Northern CA, many years ago. I was walking into a Starbucks to have my Saturday morning tea before heading over to the gym. I am athletically built, but will not "flaunt" my physique in public. Thus, i always wore over-sized sweats which were comfortable.A tall skinny black guy was heading toward the same Starbucks door on foot, like myself. He looked at me. He had with him his prize possession. A half-dressed, skinny asian female with him. She was cylindrically built, flat chested, no butt - but half naked. A far cry from the physique of a professional athlete. But they didn't see that. All they both saw was a black chick - probably overweight- in baggy sweats. *ugh*.Upon seeing me, his lips pressed into a thin line, his eyes went flat with absolute hatred. I've seen that look my whole life from young black men. Then suddenly, he grinned. He knew we were going into the same Starbucks, so he grabbed his lady-friend's hand and started walking quickly. So quickly that he opened the door for her, then swiftly turned around, smiled in my face - and SLAMMED THE DOOR before i could grab the handle. Everyone in Starbucks saw this action. I held my head up, walked into that Starbucks and stood in line right beside that couple. He gave me a belligerent stare wondering if i was going to do something to his "property". Though i was furious? I did not show it. Though i was ashamed. I did not show it. I ordered my tea when it was time, sat down and drank it. People were still staring even after that couple left. No one knew what to say. Regardless i did not sink that child's level. I held my head high, and sipped my tea. This bought back so many humiliations in the past of how black people treat each other. I saw it within my family, school, my jobs, everywhere. And believe it or not, i once wished for blue or green eyes as well. Anything but my liquid deep brown, big, round eyes. Having blue eyes would have stunned so many that i thought were my enemies into silence. I would have been treated better by not only my own counter-parts - but by white people as well.Actually, that turned out not to be the case. Blue eyes don't mean anything if you don't love yourself. Just like that black guy who had attained what he considers a "prize" asian female. If you hate everything about yourself, nothing is going to change that. He was projecting everything he hated about himself - onto me. If it wasn't me? It would have been someone else of his culture.Toni Morrison shows us, in this novel what the consequences are, if we seek "physical attributes/objects" to overpower the mental insufficiencies. I, and so many others could have gone the route of Pecola. In Toni Morrison's novel. A very valuable lesson is taught. Regardless of how blue your eyes are, if you're insecure? They will never be blue enough.

After rereading this book for the second time, it's amazing to me how relevant this work still is. Pecola Breedlove, One of two children born to Cholly and Pauline Breedlove, lives a very depressing life. Her Father is alcoholic who is incapable of showing anything but hatred towards women, and her Mother Pauline.....with so many dreams deferred, only finds solace when she is at work as a housekeeper. There she can pretend that the beautiful home and everything in it, including the white child of her dreams is hers. Pecola and her brother Sam know nothing of love and comfort. To top all of this off, they are considered ugly and outcast among their community. For the breedlove children, coming in at the bottom of the totem pole from school to home is normal. Pecola thinks that blue eyes will make all of her hardships and lack of beauty disappear. So she sets out on a journey to get the Bluest eyes she can find. This book chronicles so many issues....and it's definitely not for the faint of heart. It's not my favorite book by Toni Morrison but it is a must read nonetheless.

I recently reread this book. I had read it several years before. I was amazed at how much I had forgotten. Practically all of it. I want to make this review about the book and not about me, but I kept asking myself over and over how I could not have remembered this brilliant novel. I'm a middle-aged white man, so maybe it wasn't relevant enough to me or my lifestyle. Or; maybe my brain rejected the disturbing elements, which our sometimes nine-year-old chronicler Claudia MacTeer treats like they are just a normal part of life. I was much younger the first time I read this book, and since that time, having some close friends who are African-American relate to me over a beer some of their stories, I want to know. I want to know how this oppression of the soul still exists to this very day. How can the average white person even begin to understand events like Ferguson? Sadly, not very many try to. Books like this one, Richard Wright's "Native Son", Ralph Ellison's "Invisible Man" and so much other great literature of this genre are must reads, in my opinion, for every American. Pecola Breedlove's desire to have blue eyes like the little blonde-haired girl at the house her mother is employed as housekeeper, is heartbreaking on so many levels, especially after her own personal tragedy.
