I was hoping for something a bit more "soundbite" in presentation that I could use in discussion with some of my RCC friends and associates. This book is definitely not that, but it is a complete, total, in-depth refutation of the RCC's doctrine of the infallibility of the RCC and the Pope.Perhaps trying to use short, concise bits of information is one of the reasons so many RCC members don't realize how completely they're being lied to. As the author points out, he was able to actually show people copies of the catechism from before and after this doctrine was adopted, and the RCC members would still parrot the church's line that they had always taught that, from the time of the Apostles.There is a lot of information in this book, and sadly some of the best evidence has been lost to time and the ravages of the RCC's Ministry of Truth (We have always been at war with Eurasia...We have always taught that the Pope is infallible...).This book has been a great help to me. I have seen a few things I can hopefully use to help guide people out of the RCC cult and into a genuine relationship with Christ. I hope you will find this book useful as well.God bless

I was hoping for a comprehensive refutation to Cardinal John Henry Newman's "Development of Doctrine." This book has only strengthened Newman's assertion that the Roman Catholic Church did not reassert or violate their substance, but instead developed (what philosophers refer to as) accidental qualities: height weight, color, features, etc., They are one and the same Church (in substance) but different in features and presentation, just as a fetus to an adult human being, or an acorn to a Giant Sequoia.George Salmon revealed in his book his profoundly biased ignorance not only concerning papal infallibility, but also with regard to even the basics of the development of doctrine, as he suggested in pages 31-33:"Romish advocates . . . are now content to exchange tradition, which their predecessors had made the basis of their system, for this new foundation of development . . . The theory of development is, in short, an attempt to enable men, beaten off the platform of history, to hang on to it by the eyelids . . . The old theory was that the teaching of the Church had never varied."This assertion completely violates known Christian history. His notion that "a development" was a “new” theory introduced by Cardinal Newman is not plausible. This is unanswerably proven by the writing of St. Vincent of Lerins, one of the Church Fathers, who died around 450 A.D., in his classic patristic exposition of development, The Notebooks:Will there, then, be no progress of religion in the Church of Christ? Certainly there is, and the greatest . . . But it is truly progress and not a change of faith. What is meant by progress is that something is brought to an advancement within itself; by change, something is transformed from one thing into another. It is necessary, therefore, that understanding, knowledge and wisdom grow and advance strongly and mightily . . . and this must take place precisely within its own kind, that is, in the same teaching, in the same meaning, and in the same opinion. The progress of religion in souls is like the growth of bodies, which, in the course of years, evolve and develop, but still remain what they were . . . Although in the course of time something evolved from those first seeds and has now expanded under careful cultivation, nothing of the characteristics of the seeds is changed. Granted that appearance, beauty and distinction has been added, still, the same nature of each kind remains (Jurgens, Faith of the Fathers 265).Or, consider St. Augustine. St. Augustine (354-430), the greatest of the Church Fathers, whom Protestants also greatly revere, expressed similar sentiments in his City of God (16,2,1), and On the 54th Psalm (number 22), so this concept predated Newman by at least fourteen centuries, Salmon’s claims notwithstanding. George Salmon thus loses much credibility as any sort of expert on Christian history, papal infallibility, or development, for this and many other reasons, as demonstrated by his Catholic critics. Yet Geisler and MacKenzie, while presenting a fairly accurate picture of Newman’s (and Catholic) development themselves, state that Salmon’s book is “a penetrating critique of Newman’s theory.”I was provided this book in the hopes of abstaining conversion to Roman Catholicism based solely on the false premise of developing doctrine. As evidence from my review, this has not been convincing enough to rid Cardinal John Henry Newman of his unmovable and sound conclusions.

Incredible. By far thr best material I have read on social anxiety, and I have done a lot of research. After many years suffering from chronic shyness and crippling self-toture before, during, and after social situations, I have learned that it's okay to make (what I consider) mistakes, and treat myself with self-compassionate. I have realized that being around people doesn't mean I have to put on a performance, because who you are is already enough. This book contains many insights into what makes up social anxiety, why sufferers of capital-S Social anxiety feel and act the way they do, and offers various effective tactics to combat it. Highly recommend

Many popular self-help books are light on science, and many research-oriented books lack practical advice and are a slog to read. Ellen Hendriksen totally nails the rare combination of a book with a solid research foundation that is chockfull of accessible tips and strategies. As a fellow clinical psychology Ph.D, it's clear to me that the author knows what she's talking about. She uses great story-telling and engaging writing to introduce well-validated techniques from CBT and other therapy approaches. If you've struggled with social anxiety (and who hasn't?) this book will help.

I am really enjoying this book so far. The stories are entertaining and the author brings her patients to life as characters, while also providing facts about how our brains work when we're anxious and practical advice. I can see this book helping a wide variety of people, from the person who is nervous to speak up at work to the teenager who has developed social anxiety & "FOMO" from social media (Instagram, Facebook). Dr. Hendriksen makes the approach feel really modern and, although it is self-help-y, the book is very grounded in storytelling and specific anecdotes, which make it fun and memorable to read! This is my favorite kind of nonfiction because it shares stories, facts, and advice all at once.

As a chronic online self-help article-skimmer, not much in this book was brand spanking new to me, but after reading it and really digesting and applying the material to my life, I feel like I can actually see a change. If you're like me, you might start reading this and think it's for some shut-in, crippled by fear, but keep reading, and open your mind. I was able to apply so much to my more mild anxiety, and I'm better because of it. I highly recommend this book.

I've been wandering around the social anxiety self-help block for about 3 years now. I must have read at least a dozen other books on this topic, from "best-selling" authors and groundbreaking researchers. However, no other books broach the topic as deeply and strike as close to my heart as this one.Each chapter contains a compelling and useful tool on how to combat social anxiety, and what's more, together they paint a thorough picture of the, or at least my, social anxiety experience. Very few authors really capture the nuanced thoughts that occur during social anxiety, but this author is quite special in that she has personally had social anxiety and she knows how to describe the experience vividly.I would highly recommend this book as the go-to guide for anyone looking to improve their social anxiety.

I’ve been a fan of the Savvy Psycholgist since Dr. Hendriksen began, mainly because the segments are chock full of actual peer reviewed studies used as the back bone for each show. Her applications of research to daily life is well-done and relatable. I was so excited to hear about her book, and it was all I’d hoped for! Like Dr. H, I’m a clinical psychologist who also experiences social anxiety, and the concepts and research were familiar. However, her style of applying science to examples from her own or patients’ lives make this book truly stand out as useful. I have now recommended it as a supplement to psychotherapy for several of my patients. In summary, this is a well-done, science based approach that is also very practical. Thank you, Dr. H! Another great book in the Middle School Rules series. My 3rd grade son could not put it down, staying up well past his bedtime to continue reading. He is already beginning to to re-read his favorite chapters. He loved learning about Jamaal and hearing his story, and it is quite inspirational. In 8 year old BK's words: "The Middle School Rules of Jamaal Charles is a great book, because it tells you rules that you and your family should always follow in your life. I especially liked Chapter 7 because Jamaal talks about the meals his Grandma would make after church for Sunday dinners. I also liked Chapter 32 because Jamaal tells you about going to the University of Texas and what the college is like."Our family highly recommends this book for your kids!!!

My 9 year old son loves these books. We have another one by this author about Charles "Peanut" Tillman. I was really excited when I found out that he was going to write a book with Jamaal Charles. We've looked up to him ever since his appearance at the Special Olympics as my son is autistic. It's easy reading for him.

My son really likes this book. This book teaches good morals which is hard to find.

Pathway of the Birds is the first major summary of Polynesian voyaging since Vikings of the Sunrise (1938) and Vaka Moana (2006). It speaks of the origins and skills of the indigenous inhabitants of the islands and atolls of Polynesia, confirming two major claims: (1) that Polynesians are indeed worthy of being acknowledged as 'the supreme navigators of history'; and (2) that their domain at European contact did indeed constitute 'by far the most extensive nation upon earth'. It celebrates not only their voyaging achievements, but also - through the Hawaiki Rising Youth Development Voyages project - a revival of traditional navigation techniques. This is a very thorough and thoughtful book that describes the astonishing achievements of Polynesian voyagers over the last 2000 years or so. It is an easy read and yet combines a lot of useful scientific, archeological and linguistic references as well as some very useful maps and charts.

I've been collecting "clippings" from newspapers for years each time someone finds a piece of volcanic glass in the pacific somewhere it ought not be, or animal DNA, crop plants in remote places, language, or other evidence. Suddenly this most amazing and comprehensive book has appeared. It is beautifully illustrated, a joy to hold and flick, and has many diagrammatic/explanatory maps, all on top of an engaging tale. You many not even get to the text because there is so much else to read.The Pacific may be vast but it is not empty, it is full of cultural and technical richness that is largely untold. It was not just the birds who were apt migrators or navigators. We learn that Cook's Tahitian navigator Tapu'ia could consistently point back to Tahiti as Cook wound his way around the New Zealand coast (but don't tell the Europeans that).Andrew Crowe has produced something quite superlative. Now if I could just get past the maps, diagrams, and photo captions, and onto the storyline proper I might get somewhere.
