I would like to recommend "Talking God" because it will help you to shape a new model of preaching and will enable you to connect with your congregation.

Loved the book, the material presented and the Author. Very well written and researched. The insights are profound for those of us who preach and/or listen to sermons. Clearly outlined the challenges before all preachers & listeners. The 4 things that will help to "dress the monkey" (dress up the communication), are spot on for the 21st Century. See p. 64-75. Especially love the comments about a written text that is read. I know of only one person from thougsands who was every able to pull this off. Thank you Albert and Ruhama. Looking forward to the next book.
As I was getting more into the reading I realized that even though this practical book addresses clergy people, most of its advice suits me as a high school teacher because I'm a communicator too, so instead of thinking of people in pews I thought about my students in their desks and how can I make "my message" to them really hit them where I want! In other words, this excellent material is for everyone whose daily job consists on (or will consist on) communicating messages to others! '
Talking God is the most practical and common sense guide to preaching I have read. Rev. Cutie reminded me of the importance of honing my own unique preaching style and how seemingly small details can make a huge difference. I will forever question my "reading from a text" as I have been once again reminded that preaching is all about connection and bringing the Gospel alive.
