The best automotive repair book I've ever seen. From front to back, for each common problem, it takes a few pages to explain with simple clear drawings, the problem and how to repair it. Even if you don't do the repairs yourself, the explanations and drawingss will give you a through understanding of the problem so you aren't cheated by a mechanic.. If you read this book cover to cover, you'll understand about 95% of all car problems....you'll even be able to impress most gearheads.
I purchased this for my son who will be driving in a couple years. This book covers how to perform repairs that result in normal wear and tear, signs of wear, abnormal wear/abuse.This book truly is for the novice mechanic. Not a bad thing, in fact it could help a person save money by not falling for the BS some shops/dealerships tell you.
This book was just an incomplete list of possible problems with cars. I wouldn't consider this a manual. To be a manual it should have some type of structure or overarching progression. If you are buying this you should really just buy the for dummies book. I was hoping this would be more of a guide in how to care for your car. The For Dummies book includes things like a suggested maintenance schedule for your car. It includes a list of tools that are good to have to work on cars. This book doesn't do a good job at explaining these types of bigger picture issues.
Lots of rehash and rerehash so this tome is disappointing. I would really like to see a superior book really covering modern vehicles and how to troubleshoot and narrowdown the offending modules. I realize that all manufacturers are different but the is still a lot of commonality in the basic systems.

Good general book for the back yard mechanic, not a lot of pic but enough to get the idea...
I would think PM could do much better. The authors ramble on about peripheral issues without providing thorough coverage of the task at hand. It's not well-written, well-illustrated, or well-organized. "Auto Repair and Maintenance" from Idiots Guides is lightyears better.
Bought this for my little cousin and he loved it. He is fascinated by cars so I figured I would buy him this book. I read it too and it does in fact offer good and useful information. Great Buy!!
